Well, you should, if you haven't yet. Why, you might ask? Simple. It's because happy is your birthright.
Unhappy is unnatural, and you should move away from it as soon as possible, if that's what you're feeling.
Be as sceptical as you want, either from experience or what others have always taught you about life and what to expect, but I'm telling you that "happy" is what you were meant to be. Stop refusing to even feel, for one moment, that you are actually meant, destined even, to be happy. Allow a change to occur in your emotional state. Let it happen, and it's so easy to do it.
The small exercise I recommended earlier, that you just say to yourself, every time you are feeling low, or angry, or resentful, or without hope, that you're happy and today's a great day will start to shift your emotions. It really will.
Keep doing that every time you catch yourself thinking about anything that's negative in your life, and before long, you'll notice a shift, however slight. And if you keep practicing the replacement of the thoughts about whatever's bothering you with that simple statement, it will shift your emotions more and more. And before long, you'll actually feel happier, even if, at first, it only lasts a short time.
The more you focus on things that move you away from the negative feelings, the more you will form a habit of feeling better. It will be a mind habit, and it will become as much a part of you as all the negative thinking is now. It's just a mater of focusing your mind on something besides your troubles. And it works.
Once you start to feel better more of the time, you can begin to take steps that are necessary to make your life a whole lot better. You can't even envision better things if you're too upset, depressed, or anxious to think about them, but you can if you're in a more uplifted mood. Ideas that will help you solve problems will come to you, new avenues will open to you, you'll meet people who will also show you the way to improve things. Once you start telling yourself, until you believe it, that this is a great day, no matter what's going on outside you, it will happen.
